The Whole Story
We do not mailshot your CV to personnel desks
We know how you should expect to be treated when dealing with a professional
Career Consultant.
As a qualified lawyer, you have developed highly specialist and much
sought after skills. As such, you do not expect your CV to be mailshotted
around personnel desks by recruiters targeted to send out CVs .
You should expect your details to be considered/discussed by partners
directly responsible to the recruitment, growth and development of
any team. Too often, decisions as to whether your details even
reach relevant partners are made taken out of your hands.
Partners decide if they wish to meet you, not third parties
Our consultants insist on direct partner contact throughout
the process of introduction. Only this way, can individuals be ensured
that the people they are meeting fully understand each others
aspirations and intentions.
We understand that you do not need a new job
Review of your career When should you consider a new firm
We know that, when we make our first direct approaches, successful
individuals are not ardently seeking new positions. For this
reason, we expect you to tell us how well things are going.
We do not, at this point, set out to tell you how wrong you are. We
are frequently told how different our approach is, to that of other,
more aggressive search firms.
The fact is, that you will be the exception to the rule if you
happen to remain with one firm from admission to retirement!
Yes, partnership may well be on offer to you, but just because this
is where you work now, does not necessarily make it the best partnership
opportunity for you personally.
Similarly, as a partner, however senior, your personal goals, opinion
and aspirations may not always continue to be satisfied by the
firm you are currently with.
In-house opportunities are another issue. The timing of an in-house
move is crucial. We will give honest advice to any one considering
such a position.
As we stand now, opportunities for successful and ambitious solicitors
will offer many of you a choice of options, which should continually
be reviewed. The most successful names are not necessarily
those with the most stable/solid career.
What we do not do
We do not post details of vacancies on our website. Many are confidential,
and the information we hold is often extremely detailed. Both candidates
and clients have subjective requirements and we do not believe that
such a broad brush approach is appropriate in our market.
If you are not actively seeking a new opportunity, but would like
to be made aware of a particular type of role, simply let us know.
We will not try to persuade you to move to a new position to
suit us. We take the view that, when the time is right for you, you
will respect and appreciate the way we are able to assist you, and
allow us to work with you.
If that should be 12 months from now, so be it. In the meantime, we
would hope that you maybe able to help us with a little research or
networking and we too, will keep you advised of movements and developments
in the market.
We do not automatically acknowledge any communication from you
we appreciate security and confidentiality issues
We understand and know your market
Our consultants
We do not profess to be experts in every field of law. By focusing
in different sectors, however, we gain a deeper understanding of the
issues and opportunities in each specialist field, together with a
greater network of clients and candidates alike.
We are here for the long term. To individual lawyers, we see ourselves
as Career Development Consultants, just as we are Search
Consultants to clients who utilise our services to grow and develop
their firms.
To some, our Midlands base may seem unusual, particularly those of
you in the City. Our clients are, however, increasingly national
as well as international, with as much movement taking place
between London and the North, as London and the Far East.
Our consultants have significant experience of recruiting solicitors
in the UK and overseas, spanning over 3 decades.
